France. Deux nouveaux catamarans mis a l'eau chez Catana

Deux géants des mers étaient mis à l’eau dans le port de Canet en Roussillon les 27 et 28
Février 2008. Après la mise à l’eau, le 27, du premier Catana 65 (20m), « ORION » , un
catamaran « custom » de 26m50, construit pour un client Sud-Africain, est sorti de chantier et a
été mis à l’eau devant Catana, dans le port de Canet en Roussillon.
« ORION » est l’un des très rares multicoques de grande croisière de plus de 25 m construit en
matériaux composites. En surface, c’est l’équivalent d’un court de tennis, en hauteur celle
d’un immeuble de 14 étages, une fois mâté ; à l’intérieur : une maison de 200 m2 habitables
avec sa production autonome d’électricité et d’eau douce.
En termes économiques, « ORION » représente 5000 journées de travail chez Catana et autant à
l’extérieur pour la matière, les équipements et la sous-traitance ; son prix est celui d’un
parc de 700 petites automobiles…
Après cette mise à l’eau technique, plusieurs semaines seront nécessaires pour gréer, finir
d’équiper et régler ce catamaran d’exception. Le lancement officiel et le baptême sont
prévus en Mai.

CATANA 87 : ORION
Video of the building of the largest CATANA up to date the CATANA 87- "ORION". It show how the
hulls are built using female moulds and state of the art technology. ORION belongs to the custom
range of CATANA catamarans. This shipyard has been famous for building safe and seaworthy catamarans
from 43 to 65 foot. One of their customer rounded the world with a 58 and asked for a larger easy to
sail catamaran. Designed by Christophe Barreau the CATANA are fast and reliable blue water
