French Fin Min : All Options Open On Nuclear Indus Overhaul |
|
PARIS (Dow Jones)--All options are still being considered and no final decision has been made concerning the overhaul of France's nuclear industry, French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde told Dow Jones Newswires in an interview Monday.
"The government is taking a comprehensive look at the future of the French nuclear industry, and particularly at Areva (CEI.FR), in order to give it the means of making the most of the strong growth in demand for nuclear energy. All options are being considered and no decision has been made yet," she said.
Options include a tie-up between nuclear group Areva and engineering group Alstom SA (1022047.FR), in which media and construction conglomerate Bouygues SA (12050.FR) has a 30% stake, as well as an initial public offering of Areva, which is almost entirely held by the French state.
Patrick Kron, chairman and CEO of Alstom, has been actively campaigning in favor of a linkup with Areva, but Areva CEO Anne Lauvergeon has publicly opposed such a plan on several occasions.
