Canal + : Iliad Asks To Broadcast France Telecom's Channels |
|
PARIS (Dow Jones)--French internet company Iliad (403591.FR) has written to France Telecom SA (FTE.FR) requesting permission to broadcast the latter's channels and says it will look at court action if France Telecom refuses, Iliad's chief executive told Dow Jones Newswires Friday.
"A few days ago we sent a written request to France Telecom asking for the right to broadcast all of its Orange channels, in the same way in which we distribute those of Canal Plus SA (403591.FR)," Maxime Lombardini said, speaking on the fringes of a telecoms conference in Paris.
Lombardini also said that if France Telecom's response is negative, Iliad will look into legal action to ensure there is "fair competition in the markets."
France Telecom recently announced the forthcoming launch of television channels based on exclusive content only available to its customers.
Iliad said it believes this strategy risks reestablishing a monopoly in the telecoms sector since France Telecom's could use its exclusive offer, in combination with its superior financial clout, to gain market shares to the detriment of alternative operators.
France Telecom wasn't immediately available for comment.
