> Airbus Coo : Latecoere Has Problems Financing Plant Buy-Ins
Mardi 29 avril 2008 à 16:51 Imprimer Imprimer
PARIS (Dow Jones)--French defense group Latecoere SA (LAT.FR) is having difficulty finding financing to allow it to buy into two French plants owned by European aerospace giant Airbus, the planemaker told Agence France Presse Tuesday.

"The economic context is linked to the tensions in the financing market," Airbus Chief Operating Officer Fabrice Bregier told AFP, adding that like Airbus, Latecoere is also being hurt by the depressed dollar against the euro.

Aerospace companies and their suppliers tend to bill in dollars, although operating costs for euro-zone players are denominated mainly in euros.

Airbus is the aircraft-building arm of European Aeronautic Defence & Space NV (EADSY).

In the AFP interview, Bregier said Airbus and Latecoere are likely to come to a decision in May on the sale of the Meaulte and Saint-Nazaire-ville plants.

In the first instance Latecoere would effectively take 40% of the plants.

Bregier also disclosed that Airbus has made preliminary contact with potential investors over its Varel, Nordenheim and Augsbourg plants in Germany.

The executive added that Airbus is open to all types of investors, including financial investors and sovereign investors. He said the company hopes to dispose of the sites within three years.
